1. What Are Pages?
Pages are static, permanent content sections on your website. Unlike posts, pages are not part of a chronological feed and do not use categories or tags.
Common examples of pages include the Home page, About page, Contact page, Services page, and other informational sections.
2. Accessing the Page Editor
To create a new page, navigate to the Pages section within the WordPress admin menu.
- Select Pages from the left-hand menu
- Click Add New
This opens the Block Editor where you can build your page layout.
3. Creating a New Page
Start by entering the page title in the title field. For example, if you are creating an About page, type “About” in the title area.
You can then add content using blocks, such as text, images, buttons, and columns, to design the page layout.
4. Using Common Page Blocks
Pages often use structured content blocks to present information clearly. Common blocks used in pages include:
- Heading block for section titles
- Paragraph block for descriptive text
- Image block for photos or illustrations
- Button block for calls to action
- Columns block for multi-column layout
- Separator block for dividing sections
These blocks help organize page content and improve readability.
5. Setting a Featured Image
Some themes use featured images on pages to create page headers or hero sections. To set a featured image:
- Open the Page settings panel
- Select Featured Image
- Upload or choose an image from the Media Library
Not all themes display featured images on pages, so functionality may vary.
6. Page Attributes
The Page Attributes section provides additional options to organize content and control display.
- Parent Page – Allows you to nest pages in a hierarchy
- Template – Selects a pre-designed layout provided by your theme
- Order – Controls the numerical order of pages if you choose to sort them
Page hierarchies are helpful for organizing content such as service pages, subpages, or documentation sections.
7. Publishing the Page
Before publishing, review the content layout and check formatting. When ready, follow these steps:
- Click Preview to view the page
- Select Publish
- Confirm your choice
Your page will now be visible to visitors and can be added to menus for easier navigation.
